Exemestane (Aromasin) prevents estrogenic side effects

Exemestane (Aromasin) is an aromatase inhibitor of Type-I meaning it deactivates aromatase enzyme permanently. Aromasin was developed to tussle with breast cancer in postmenopausal women but athletes and bodybuilders use it to negate the aromatising effects of other anabolic steroids taken. Aromatase enzyme helps in aromatisation which causes side effects like water retention, fat gain and development of breast tissue in males. Most of the potent anabolic steroids aromatise hence Aromasin can be helpful in combating those symptoms. Since it causes slight androgenic effects like hardening of muscles and increases in aggressiveness, it is also called as ‘steroidal’ aromatase inhibitor. Females must not use it for prolonged period as it might cause virilisation.
